Zimbabwe’s manufacturing sector is recording fresh gains following the completion of a US$27 million gypsum processing plant in Norton, Mashonaland West Province, with production already feeding into the local market.
The plant, developed by Ronchelle Investments, is producing rhinoset and rhinoboards, marking a significant step in strengthening domestic value addition and reducing reliance on imported construction materials.
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce said the project, which began in 2024, is already delivering tangible results, with locally produced materials now competing on the market.
“Ronchelle Investments completed the setting up of a US$27 million Gypsum Processing Plant for the production of rhinoset and rhinoboards. The project began in 2024 and products are already competing on the market,” said the Ministry of Industry and Commerce.
The development signals growing momentum in Zimbabwe’s industrialisation drive, particularly in the construction inputs sector, where demand for locally manufactured materials continues to rise.

Authorities said plans are already underway to scale up operations, with additional capital being mobilised to expand production capacity.
“Plans are in motion to expand this project. US$15 million has been sourced for the expansion project,” the Ministry of Industry and Commerce said.
The plant is expected to play a key role in supporting infrastructure development while creating employment opportunities along the value chain, from raw material processing to finished products.
During the construction phase, the project also contributed to job creation and local economic activity in Norton, reinforcing the broader impact of industrial investments at community level.
The Ministry of Industry and Commerce said such projects reflect a shift toward value-driven manufacturing, positioning Zimbabwe to leverage its mineral resources for industrial growth while enhancing competitiveness in the regional market.
